Biography

Described as a musician with an enriching, natural and deep display of musicality whilst portraying delicacy and sensitivity towards her fine artistry, Jessie Gu won the 2014 Fritz-Gerber Stiftung stipendium and the 2011 Migros-Kulturprozent Studienpreis in Switzerland, as well as 5th prize at the 2010 Nicolet International Flute Competition. At a young age she was already found on the platform of prestigious competitions such as the 2006 Inaugural Nicolet International Flute Competition, 2007 First International Flute Competition Maxence Larrieu in Nice, 2008 Rampal International Flute Competition in Paris and the 2017 Kobe International Flute Competition.

Born into a musical family in Dublin, Ireland, Jessie studied with Prof. Felix Renggli at the age of 16 which she completed both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees with honours at the Hochschule für Musik, Basel in Switzerland. She has worked extensively with musicians and mentors such as Aurèle Nicolet, Peter-Lukas Graf, Emmanuel Pahud, Heinz Holliger, Andrea Lieberknecht, Julien Beaudiment, Sergio Azzolini upon many others.

Jessie Gu has been Principal Flute and collaborated with orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic, RTE National Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Kammerorchester Basel, Adeliade Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. She is currently the Associate Principal Flute of Orchestra Victoria, The Australian Ballet.

She has been invited by festivals and concerts such as the Flötenfestival Freiburg, Australian Flute Festival, Internationale Musikfestival Arthur Lourié in collaboration with the Allgemeine Lesegesellschaft Basel, Flautissimo in Rome, Singapore Flute Festival and the Baselbieter Konzerte organisation in Liestal.
